Patients & Visitors

PICU

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Visitation Standards:

  1. Parents/guardians are provided with visitation policy upon admission to PICU.
  2. Parents may be allowed to visit and remain with the child at the discretion of the nurse caring for the patient.
  3. Other family members and close friends, per parents’ preference, may visit so long as only two visitors are in the room at one time. Unit activities may call for the charge nurse to limit visitors at any time during the stay.
  4. It is required that parents/guardians, family remain at the bedside of their infant/child when visiting and not visit other patients in the PICU, both to guarantee confidentiality and to decrease chances for infection. Exceptions, both to increase and to limit visitation, may be up to the discretion of the medical and nursing staff.

Guidelines:

  1. In special circumstances, a parent/guardian may be able to stay with child. Parents will be encouraged to go home if the condition allows.
  2. Patients going to surgery may have their parents/guardians visit prior to and after return from surgery.
  3. All visitors must leave unit during special procedures.
  4. Parents may call the Nursing Supervisor on duty to check on their child.
